If angling is new to you, there are many things you need to learn. Be respectful of the environment and other anglers around you. This will continue to be a part of our daily activity for as long as the sea continues to provide us with its abundance. Technology may have improved the chance of catching more fish but many of the traditional rules still apply. We must all remember to look after our waterways, they are one of nature’s greatest gifts that should be preserved for the future generations and do not let your short term desire damage an important part of the ecological system. You can make a conscious decision to leave the areas in which people fish in better condition than when you found it. Take care of lakes, rivers, and other waterways so that others will enjoy these areas for years to come. This can be achieved simply by practicing good angling habits.

Fishing

Never litter when you are fishing so always bring a trash bag or other receptacle to use for the collection of your trash. Dispose them off properly in dumping stations. This is a small act that plays a big role in preserving the environment.

Always use the right type of fishing bait and gear. There are restrictions around the number and type of fish you can keep. Do not make the mistake of not checking for these restrictions before you set out. Get familiar with what the restrictions are before you set out to fish! Every fishing spot has different rules regarding the kinds of watercraft allowed so do check them before you set out.

Finally, never fish where it is not permitted because there is always a reason why it is illegal. Sometimes they are just protecting the environment, but often they are protecting you from some dangers that you might be unaware of. It is silly to compromise safety just to look good, and keep those life jackets fastened securely and make sure everyone abides by these rules.

Avoid making any careless mistake when hooking or removing bait, any unexpected jerks by a large fish may throw you into the icy cold water. Do not make the stupid mistake of fishing in unauthorized waterways. You need to make sure you bring along your cell phone, map for direction and some water supply.

Today, fishing is a favorite past time of Americans, Canadian and Europeans. If you are one of them, take an active role to help make fishing possible for the future. This is a very enjoyable sport that you can help to be around forever by observing the rules.
